Q. Who operates TradeLock?
A. TradeLock is owned and operated by TradeLock, a division of PolyGroup, Ltd. Providing this service for the jewelry industry is the only business of TradeLock.
Q. Can any site be TradeLocked?
A. TradeLock protection can be applied to almost any jewelry-related website anywhere in the world. However, there are certain technical restrictions. Contact TradeLock for more information.
Q. I already have a password protection system for my website. It works okay. Is there any reason to also use TradeLock?
A. Yes. You're wasting your valuable time! Let us qualify potential visitors and manage the password requests. You can use TradeLock Password Protection without dismantling your current system. Honoring TradeLock IDs on your website ensures that it will receive the maximum amount of exposure to its intended audience. Keep in mind that retail jewelers need to access dozens, sometimes hundreds, of different industry websites. It is not feasible for those retailers to remember dozens or hundreds of individual IDs for individual websites. The difference between using only your own password system, versus honoring TradeLock as well, is tens of thousands of additional jewelers conveniently accessing your site.
Q. Who is entitled to a TradeLock ID, and how much does it cost?
A. TradeLock IDs are provided free of charge to any company that can be verified to be in the jewelry industry. A very specific, defined procedure is used in issuing TradeLock IDs, one similar to admitting buyers at a tradeshow. Membership in any of several industry associations, for example, provides immediate TradeLock verification (JA, IJO, AGS, AGTA, and others). Contact a TradeLock representative for more information.
Q. What if my clients don't have or want a TradeLock ID?
A. Your system administrator has the ability to set up an alternate password-protection system to operate alongside TradeLock. You, the website owner, would then have complete control of these personalized IDs that would be used only for your website.
Q. Can I install TradeLock Password Protection myself?
A. The installation of TradeLock Password Protection requires knowledge of password protection setup and PERL scripts. Site owners must either have someone on staff with these skills, or must arrange for their website hosting company to handle the installation.
Q. Are there any technical requirements for TradeLock Password Protection?
A. Your site must be hosted on a server that accepts remote authentication via LDAP protocol. TradeLock Password Protection will run on remote sites running Unix or Linux and Apache or FreeBSD, running with Dynamic Shared Object support and the mod_auth_ldap module provided by muquit.com. The same Apache module may be used with Windows NT/2000, and has been successfully tested on that platform as well. Your host must also allow PERL scripts to be installed. Q. Does anyone else offer a similar service for the protection of jewelry industry websites?
A. Not to our knowledge. TradeLock has become a standard in the industry, and is supported by virtually all the primary jewelry industry trade associations, trade publications, and many major suppliers.
Q. How much does it cost to add TradeLock Password Protection to my website?
